Artist’s Statement

Nature has afforded us life for millions of years; it has connected us, built us and formed our evolution. From the Stone Age to the Bronze Age to the Iron Age, it has led us through revolutions both industrial and technological. Jon’s work explores our relationship with nature and highlights its importance for our survival, for our protection, our shelter, and for the fuel for us to live. In essence, nature made us; it is ‘The Land I Am’

Throughout his photographic work, Whitmore finds an emotional connection with his subject, and this emotion is portrayed through his pictures. In this series of work, his large scale C – Type prints convey his own emotional attachment to the land, leaving space for the viewer’s imagination to impart theirs.
