Artist Statement

Photographer and artist Elizabeta Mikelsone uses photographic imagery as a form of self-expression. Mikelsone’s work reflects her ideas and perceptions of the world around her. She is highly influenced by surrealist and conceptual forms of art; especially editorial photography. Often her work incorporates and is developed through topics like fetish, desire and mental health. Mikelsone is inspired by many forms of surrealist art; but her key inspirations are René Magritteand and Bela Borsodi’s work. Although she has a much defined idea of what she wants the viewer to see, she allows freedom to imagination.
